Introducing FBMHell.Com

Good news, everyone! My compulsive need to make websites and write content has struck again, this time resulting in my new site, FBMHell.Com, which I hope will evolve into a great resource for Facebook developers, whether you’re an app developer or fan page designer.

It’s literally just been launched, so I’m looking for your help. I’ll be going through some older posts and rounding up the questions that seem to come up often and writing up answers for the new site, but if there’s a burning question you’ve had for a while and haven’t been able to find an answer for, let me know in the comments.

One that comes up often is whether or not you can include an IFRAME in a tab, so don’t ask that one šŸ™‚ It’s already on deck.

I’m looking for all kinds of questions, ranging from the complicated to the more basic, so don’t be afraid to ask. More complicated tutorials (similar to what I’ve posted in the past regarding app development and complex mini-sites on tabs) will take a little longer, so be patient, and remember to subscribe to the RSS feed so you’ll get all the latest posts.

Categories will be added as content demands, of course.

I really want this site to be a great resource for everyone (including myself, as a repository of stuff I know works), so I’m looking forward to your feedback!

Also keep your eyes peeled for the launch of FBMLWizard, a drag+drop Facebook fan page tab builder.Ā  I’ll update you here when it’s ready.

I think you're missing an “of” in the subtitle of your new website.

  • Brian

I love the thought of having resource like this – one question I have: Can you change the background on a static FB page. I can see how to add and image etc., but no where can I find how change the background color

  • You would chnage the color using the background-color CSS property.

  • Rg

Hey hi again! I'm really anticipating this as you've told me about this before on Facebook. Glad you've made it finally! Though, off topic, what web host do you recommend? It seems like you have a lot of sites, so I think I should ask you this if you don't mind

  • Hi Rg – best host really depends on what you need. How many sites do you want to host? Do you need shell access? How much do you want to spend?

  • Rg

Hi again, I'm in need of hosting about 10-30 sites, though they're really not “big” and doesn't have a lot of visitors yet, I'm looking for around 15-30$ around the month. Shell access is needed and also ROR, I don't think I need a VPS yet, not even cloud. What do you have in mind?

  • Hmm… that's on the low end for pricing. I use Rackspace Cloud Sites, which is ~$150 a month but I can create unlimited sites.

  • Rg

Hi again! I've been trying to consider Rackspace though I'm not yet developing massive sites and apps. Though I've found this shared hosting but then it's hosted on top of Amazon EC2. I hope that this turns out well. I'm still trying it and got 1,000 computer cycles for 9.95 per month. Thanks again!

  • Jesse C

Hey Rg. Cloud sites is great and all (I work there :)), but they don’t give shell access or RoR, so sites woudn’t be a good fit in ur case. Servers lets you install Ruby though, but you would need to install Ruby though as they are empty VMs. If you are still interested in trying Sites out but are reluctant to fork out the $150 for the first month, resells their services for $6 per domain.

  • To clarify, Rg, Cloud Servers is what Jesse is talking about, and while you’ll have shell access, you’ll have to install everything from the ground up and admin your own server. (Which is why I don’t use Cloud Severs – no time to deal with that crap anymore.)

Excellent, I’ve already used your assistance on for getting OAuth to work with Twitter (actually I didn’t get it working with your assistance, but it pointed me in the right direction which, for free, is fair enough). Now all I want to do is use PHP to update a Facebook status. Will look about the new site for it; amazed it not as simple as I thought it would be.

  • I do really need to update this tutorial for Abraham’s latest libraries and OAuth’s updates.

  • Hey Snipe,

    Two questions for you.

    1) Any chance you’d entertain taking on additional contributors to FBMLHell?

    2) Relating to FB Development… you been able to get the webdevk uk companies GA hack to work properly? Every instance I’ve tried it only reports views from where FB’s datacenters may be (CA. VA. NY). Just curious.

    • Hi Nathan,

Sure, I’m open t outside contributors. Truth be told, I’d be glad to have additional help. I manage quite a few websites, so I don’t always have time to contribute as much as I’d like.

We have gotten the GA stuff to work, but I don’t recall offhand if we were paying much attention to geographic locations.

  • YOBCDarryl

I so much what a easy way to create fan pages for my local business in our area and online. I need 5 to 10 templates that I can use and resell and to load into my marketing system that conect to autoresponder. I have been searching for ever to find the right person to get this done.

  • Thank you for introducing the site on my birthday šŸ˜€

  • BTW you too have this problem with disquss comments, this big gap between this big gap between the comment textbox and “Add New Comment” heading. I saw it on some other sites too. just FYI

    • Yeah – there is a clear all in the disqus code Nothing I can really do about it. šŸ™
