Some time last year, a vendor called my company’s main number and asked to be transferred to the Director of Technology. The call was transferred to me, I answered it with my name and “how can I help you?”, as I always do.
The man on the other end of the line quickly said “Oh, yes, I’m sorry, I asked to be transferred to the director of technology.”
I quickly apologized “Oh, I’m so sorry! I’m the director of shoes. Let me transfer you right away.”
I think I left him on hold for 20 minutes before he finally hung up.
(I have since been promoted to VP of Shoes.)
